AYA Parents, I sent this out last Saturday. The response has been overwhelming. Here are some of the responses:
If you are a parent of an AYA High School student, please read this carefully and we need you to participate in the cohorts that are forming. Also, please spread the word. We have 10 students enrolled in the class, and we want 10 cohorts nationally. Given the response so far, we may have to extend that!
Please plan to attend the organizational meeting on Sunday the 14th!
Please talk to your Black Body Bio-Khem students about it. Big them up. This is a national STEM academic movement and they are at the center of it!
- Monica Utsey I am ONE MILLION % interested!
- Tasha Sharif Vanzie · 12 mutual friendsChati Ya Kazi and Sheva Quinn have you heard about this? If not consider organizing a cohort where you are.
- Joyce King · Friends with Ife Jie and 6 othersWay past brilliant!!!

AYA Family and Friends,AYA Educational Institute needs your help with a school-community STEM project that we call Melanin Mastery! We are forming 10 of these MM cohorts around the country. Will you join us? Your organization can even sponsor one of the cohorts! There are many ways to get involved. Attend our organization - informational meeting on online - Oct. 14th. See info below.
- If you are a parent of a middle or high school Afrikan, Afrikan Diasporian, Afrikan-American student, we need you.
- If you are an Afrikan or Afrikan American interested in learning and sharing about melanin, we need you.
- Lastly, if you are a science teacher, professor, student, or science enthusiast interested in learning and sharing about melanin, then we need you.
Each cohort will consist of each of these categories plus an AYA high school student taking the Black Body Bio-Khem classYour mission, should you decide to accept it will be:1. To take an assigned or chosen claim about melanin and to research them together so that the cohort can support that claim with evidence - biological and khemical evidence2. To meet one weekly via web-conference to share your questions and discoveries about melanin generally and the claim your group is researching3. To teach each others - in and out of the cohort - what you are learning4. To prepare for your cohort's community presentationsLearn More @ BBBK - Melanin MasteryThis MM cohort is a part of AYA's Black Body Bio-Khem educational process. Here's more:In the high school course Black Body BioKhem we use Melanin (primarily) to introduce and - in some cases deepen - students' biology and khemistry studies. We seek to do a number of things:1. Create a portal to those sciences instead of blocks that are created by the current science instruction.2. Establish in student's minds and experience that science is for the service of our people (Afrikan) people first and the world after that.3. To demonstrate how academic attention, retention, and research is increased when students engage the subject matter (biology and khemistry - in this case) as a vehicle of healing from the wounds of oppression and as a tool for challenging oppression4. To develop school-community learning cohorts so that high school students get to experience the community (not just "schools") as a serious multi-generational learning space.5. To help us (Afrikan parents and communities) regain faith in our ability to educate our own children!C18-H10-N2-O4 is a powerful formula for healing in our bodies and our minds. We need to deepen our knowledge of it - what it is and what it isn't - so that we can protect it and nurture it. Cliche's, slogans, T-shirts, Memes, even errant claims can be a pathway to the scientific inquiry yielding greater understanding and commitment to our community becoming the scientists we need to be.
It's a wonderful story. Come, help us weave it and tell it! Please share this email.Interested?Attend our Melanin Mastery Cohort Online Organizing Meeting.Sunday, Oct. 14th at 6pm Eastern | WEB:Telephone: 669 900 6833 Meeting ID: 243 290 519
